Why human translation
IDEA requires the procedural safeguards notice to be translated into the parent's native language unless clearly not feasible. Machine translation produces a document. It does not produce a document a parent can rely on, sign, or hold the district to.
The Center for Democracy and Technology's October 2025 brief found that 60% of special-education teachers reported using AI tools in IEP-related work in 2024–25, and warned that uncritical use without rigorous review can violate IDEA's individualization and FERPA's privacy requirements. We use the tools where they help. We do not let them ship the document.
