Compliance posture
When school districts engage us to interpret IEP meetings or translate documents, we receive student information protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
In one paragraph
Educational Translation Services operates as a "school official" under FERPA when retained by a district to provide interpretation or translation services. We are bound by the same confidentiality, use-limitation, and re-disclosure rules that bind district staff. NDAs on file with every interpreter and translator. Secure transmission for all documents. No use of general-purpose cloud or AI tools for student PII. Deletion or return of records on completion.

What we ask of districts
Districts engaging us for ongoing work typically execute a Data Sharing or Data Privacy Addendum that names Educational Translation Services as a school official under 34 CFR § 99.31(a)(1) and confirms direct control over the records. We are happy to work with district counsel on the specific language.
