Our FERPA posture.

Educational Translation Services operates as a "school official" under FERPA when retained by a district to provide interpretation or translation services. We are bound by the same confidentiality, use-limitation, and re-disclosure rules that bind district staff. NDAs on file with every interpreter and translator. Secure transmission for all documents. No use of general-purpose cloud or AI tools for student PII. Deletion or return of records on completion.

• NDAs on file. Every interpreter and translator signs a confidentiality agreement before they are briefed on a case.
• Secure transmission. Documents are exchanged through district-approved secure channels — not open email attachments.
• No general-purpose AI tools for student PII. Where we use tools that touch student data, those tools are vetted for FERPA compatibility, run with terms that prohibit training on the data, and are scoped to the project.
• Need-to-know access. Only the assigned interpreter or translator and project lead see any given case's records.
• Deletion or return. On project completion, records are returned to the district or securely deleted per the district's preference.

Districts engaging us for ongoing work typically execute a Data Sharing or Data Privacy Addendum that names Educational Translation Services as a school official under 34 CFR § 99.31(a)(1) and confirms direct control over the records. We are happy to work with district counsel on the specific language.
